As part of the upcoming event in New York City celebrating the 20th aniversary of the Half Cab skate shoe, the art portion will feature 30 pairs of Half Cabs "customized." Each artist was given artistic license to paint whatever they wanted. These shoes will be sold through a silent auction at the event, with 100% of proceeds going to the A. Skate Foundation, which helps autistic children through skateboarding. I chose to do mine in black and white, so I could focus on doing a lot of detail work on the shoes. The shoes say: "Just because I walk through this world, Don't mean I belong in it." Here's how they turned out, feel free to comment!

J. Tingler invites the public to view his fresh new artwork at the upcoming exhibit “Another Day of Pain” at the Octane! Gallery in East Nashville. Tingler, a nationally recognized lowbrow/outsider artist, will be showing a new body of work never before seen by the public. This memorable occasion will be Tingler’s first solo exhibition in Nashville.

Heavily influenced by Kustom Kulture, Tingler’s art has in recent years become a powerful blend of folk art and outsider art with influences as varied as the Reverend Howard Finster and Jean Dubuffet. Bold use of color, line, text, and cartoon imagery defines his work. Tingler lives in Middle Tennessee with his wife and two lovely daughters. His work has been featured in numerous shows, publications, and private collections throughout the world.

Don’t miss your chance to see J. Tingler’s art in person. The gallery will be hosting an opening reception on Sunday, January 8th, from 8-11 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Jason and I (with the girls of course) attended a very cool artist lecture in Nashville; Artemio Rodriguez, a well known Mexican printmaker, was giving a lecture on his work at Watkins College of Art and Design. The girls behaved so well and I left with an autographed print, I couldn't ask for a better evening. It is so nice the girls are finally old enough to attend public events, it is very educational for them as well.
Flora continues to draw constantly, I am posting a few of her recent drawings for you to enjoy..........Amanda T.

This is my first official painting on stretched canvas. This paintings started as a complete disaster to tell you the truth. I decided it would be fun to work with fabric because I love funky, colorful fabric, but....adhering it to the canvas without having any bubbles underneath wasn't easy. I had to cut the shape out about 3 times to get it right, thank goodness I bought extra fabric! It did turn out good in the end, but was a challenge. ....Amanda T.

Well, here is a new painting I finished this weekend. It's called "Good and Bad". It's a simple lowbrow devil theme using a cliche that I heard a grizzled dude saying. I remember thinking it didn't make much sense when this dude utttered the phrase . I mean come on. Phrases like this stick in my head forever and drive me to the brink of madness. I find that people talk in phrases like this. For them it's a way to dismiss the seriousness of the situation. I guess it might be a defense mechanism that allows regular folks to just keep on getting the job done. Don't think.....work. Just keep on. Don't think about it. That sort of nonsense. I'd rather folks thought about things and allowed some chaos to reign free every once in a while. Now I'm not advocating school shootings or violence in any way. I think people should just do nothing. That's right. In a world dripping with violence and chaos, sometimes the best way to fight is to simply stop and sit down. Go out into a field and look at a bug. Go to a creek and find a crayfish. When was the last time you did that? Yeah man.....quit your stupid job. It's a sham anyhow. Smell the roses. (I better stop before I turn into a dreaded hippie). I can feel my hair growing already.
